Closing events of the XIV Summer Academy for Children and School Students at the National Academy of Art

2023.09.03

On 31 August, the fourteenth edition of the Summer Academy for Children and School Students (SAChSS) at the National Academy of Art was closed with a happening – a show with original costumes – in Academia Gallery.

Throughout the month of August, the ateliers of the National Academy of Art at 1 Shipka St and in the building of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design of the Academy at 73 Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd were full of children's laughter, smiles, colours and creative inspiration due to the SAChSS project.

The fourteenth edition of SAChSS is proof of the project's validation in the public space, of its usefulness and necessity. The great task of the project is to introduce children from an early age to the world of visual and plastic arts, to build a lasting relationship with art in order to grow a cultural audience that needs to communicate with and through arts.

This year, SAChSS celebrated two great birth anniversaries – the 100th anniversaries of the great Bulgarian artists Lyuben Zidarov and Genko Genkov. Every week, SAChSS offered a different workshop: on making handmade paper; working with the ancient Arab water painting technique Ebru; the Indonesian Batik wax painting technique, and animation.

Two exhibitions were opened on the theme of Treasure Island in Academia Gallery at 1 Shipka St and in Atelier 15 of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design on Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd. The expositions present the best works by the children participants in SAChSS – hundreds of works: painting, prints, sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, posters, books, rag dolls, comic strips, post cards, textiles, jewellery, computer, and stop motion animation.

The Summer Academy for Children and School Students project at the National Academy of Art is implemented with the support of Sofia City Municipality - Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia City Municipality for Year 2023.
