On the 14th of October 2023, the exhibition "Contemporary Woodcarving and Wood Sculpture" of the newly formed artistic group Arena ART Wood will open at the Cultural Center of Niš in Serbia. The exhibition presents works by artists working in the field of wood-carving and wood sculpture – teachers and graduates of the Department of Woodcarving at the National Academy of Art. Assoc. Prof. Robert Tsanev, Vice Rector of the National Academy of Art and teacher in the Department of Woodcarving, together with Anton Georgiev, doctoral student in the Department of Woodcarving and curator of the exhibition, have started the Arena ART Wood artistic group.
The dominant and unifying factor in this exhibition is wood – that is, it is the means for the artists to express their ideas. Various processing techniques, search for different structures and patinas that enrich and convey the beauty of the small sculptures, and different combinations of wood with stone and metal are evident in the exposition. Experimentation and search for new means of expression are the main driving force for the artists to manifest their ingenuity and individual style.
