Twenty Bulgarian artists took part in the first edition of GRAYSCALE (2015), each with two works created by using different printing techniques. The curatorial concept back then gave the artists complete freedom of visual expression. The only mandatory requirements were related to the paper format (50x70 cm, horizontal) and the positioning between white and black in the infinity of the gray tone range.

GRAYSCALE works have been exhibited in Croatia (Medžimuria Museum, Čakovec), Serbia (Cedomir Krstic Gallery, Pirot; Art 55 Gallery, Niš; International Art Studio Radovan Trnavac Mića, Valevo and Metodi-Meta Petrov Gallery, Tsaribrod), Austria (Bulgarian Cultural Institute "Haus Wittgenstein", Vienna), and Bulgaria (Art Center Bankya and Academia Gallery in Sofia).

The number of participants in the second edition is the same, as is the 50x70 cm format requirement. This time, however, there is a purposeful provocation to the artists – to include one more colour – PINK in its various shades. In this case, the colour is symbolic and carries a multi-layer meaning. This seemingly cheerful "wink" is actually a call for humanity and harmony much needed in today's world shaken by natural disasters, epidemics, and war. In GRАY/PINK/SCALE 2, all the participants are teachers and doctoral students at the National Academy of Art in Sofia. Their works are executed by using the technique of either stone lithography or algraphy (aluminum lithography). The choice is not random as it is the result of collaboration with teachers from the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, who have demonstrated interest in exchanging experience related to the use of this particular technique. The fact that lithography is the first graphic technique studied at the National Academy of Art during the first years since its establishment is also of significance.
