National Scientific Conference with International Participation „Alphabets, Memory, Continuity“

The National Academy of Art will have a strong presence in the upcoming National Scientific Conference with international participation “Alphabets, Memory, Continuity”, which will be held on December 8 and 9, 2025 at the National Library “St. Cyril and Methodius”.
The event is part of the initiatives dedicated to the Year of the Glagolitic Alphabet, and is being held under the patronage of the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms Iliyana Yotova.
The conference agenda includes reports by the presenters:
Prof. Elissaveta Mussakova, PhD – a long-time lecturer in the Department of History of Art at the National Academy of Art and Chief Archivist in the Department of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books of the National Library. She will be the moderator of the first conference panel, and on the second day of the forum she will present a report on the topic of Traces of the Decoration of Glagolitic Manuscripts in South Slavic Cyrillic Manuscripts;
Stefan Peev will examine the topic of the Glagolitic and the Cyrillic Alphabets – Differences in Similarity, part of the second panel of scientific reports united under the theme “The Historical Context of the Glagolitic and the Cyrillic Alphabets: Unresolved Issues in History; Reconsidering the Sources; Scientific and Popular Mythologemes”’;
Asst. Prof. Margarita Doncheva, PhD, will open the third panel–The Glagolitic Alphabet in Art–with a report on the topic of The Glagolitic Alphabet – Antiquity and Modernity in Calligraphic Interpretation;
Assoc. Prof. Stoyan D. Dechev, PhD, will present his study “ALPHALETTERS (alphabets and letters)”.
The forum brings together researchers from leading institutions, such as the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the National Academy of Art, UniBIT, as well as foreign speakers from Armenia, Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Italy.
