Photography at the National Academy of Art

Exhibition of teachers and students from the National Academy of Art

13 April - 13 May 2021

Sea Casino Culture Centre in Burgas

Vernissage on 13 April, 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Thе exhibition is the outcome of a curatorial project initiated in 2017, based on the activities of the Master's degree programme in Photography at the National Academy of Art. Twenty artists are presented with a total of forty photographs. With purposefully set format of the works (50 x 70 cm) and no technological limitations, the exhibition is intended to travel to different cities around the country and abroad in a specifically made chest. Setting off in the fall of 2017 in Blagoevgrad, it toured a number of cities, and prior to its currently presence in Burgas it had been presented in Academia Gallery in Sofia and in the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels.

An important feature of this exhibition is that along with the key presence of the teachers in the Master's degree programme in Photography and of their (already former) students, it also includes works of lecturers of various academic specialities at the Academy. What unites all the artists (students and teachers alike) is not only the means of expression and the same format, it is rather the modern mindset and attitude towards art. Regardless of the artists' profiles – professional photographers or artists working in different fields of visual arts, as a result the curators strive to achieve a sense of professional work with the image, most often supported by a multi-level conceptual strategy. This is the objective of the exhibition – the photographic technique to acquire new semantic dimensions, relevant and topical in today's rapidly changing world and its contemporary art.
