On October 13, 2015, at 13:30 pm at the Academia Gallery will be held a public lecture entitled My Design Philosophy - Art as Unexpected Transfer of Thought. Within the framework of his visit will be conducted several meetings with students and professors of the Academy.
Mervyn Kurlanski was born in South Africa in 1936. He graduated from the Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. His personality of genuine author in the field of graphic design and visual communications is associated with his fundamental role in two major institutions - the establishment of design association Pentagram and his participation in ICOGRADA - the most prestigious organization of graphic designers, of which he was three times elected for president.
Mervyn Kurlanski is one of five partners in Pentagram - a unit, providing complete design solutions in many fields - from graphic design through packaging to product design and protection of the environment. Suffice it to mention some of the most popular devices designed to Pentagram: Kodak Pocket Instamatic camera, Parker pen, razors Royal and Protector for Wilkinson Sword, the interior design of speed trains for British Rail, and the contemporary look of the classic black London taxis for London Taxis International. The list of Pentagram clients includes world famous giants of every sphere of production and services - Barclays Bank, British Library, British Telecom, IBM, Lee Cooper, L'Oréal, Mazda, Novo Nordisk, Olivetti, Penguin Books, Polaroid, Rank Xerox, Reuters, Roche, Shiseido, Toyota and many other companies with high reputation. Besides the key role of a creator of this association, defined by experts as the first international interdisciplinary design super unit, Mervyn Kurlanski is an outstanding figure in the International Association of Graphic Designers, ICOGRADA.
Mervyn Kurlanski has long outdone conventional frames of graphic design. His practical work in the design of corporate identity ( branding ), symbolic systems, newspapers, magazines, brochures, catalogs, books, covers of books, posters and packaging combines successfully with his activity of design consultant to a number of established companies, foundations and design companies.
