The Summer Academy for Children and School Students 2024 (SAChSS 2024) is dedicated to THE 130th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT EUROPEAN ARTIST GEORGES PAPAZOFF AND THE 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES.
 
For a fifteenth year, throughout August 2024, every weekday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the ateliers of the National Academy of Art will once again be filled with the creative energy of the young artists from SAChSS 2024.
 
The project is suitable for children and school students at age 6 to 18.
 
The creative workshops will be held in two locations: our central location at 1 Shipka Street, and also in the building of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design of the National Academy of Art at 73 Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd.
 
The participants will be divided into two age groups according to the complexity of the creative activities and tasks – aged 6 to 10 and 11 to 18 – will work with both current students (Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral students) from different departments and pursuing different programmes at the National Academy of Art, and alumni of the Academy, who have completed a second degree programme in Theory and Practice of Art Education.
 
The project activities will provide for the children the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge and skills in the following areas:
– Academic – drawing from nature with graphic and colour drawing materials;
– Creative – fine and applied arts ateliers, animation, puppet theatre;
– Experimental-creative – team assignments, a happening and workshops led by established artists;
– Creative games, lectures and films about art;
– Plein air;
– Visits to museums and galleries.
 
Also, during the Summer Academy, creative workshops will be held on: Academic Drawing; Painting; Printmaking; Sculpture; Illustration; Comic Strips; Caligraphy, The Miracle World of Art; Ceramics; Mosaic; Stained Glass; Icon; Dolls and Dollhouse; Experimental Painting;  Stop-Motion Animation; Recycling – Sculptures and Toys from Waste Materials; Handmade Paper and Papier-mâché; Scenography and Puppets for Puppet Theatre; Costumes; Porcelain and Glass; Textiles; Poster and Postcards for an Eco Cause, and Computer Graphics for older students.
 
The cultural programme includes lectures, drawing sessions in galleries and museums, a plein air painting of Old Sofia in parks and urban spaces.The workshop programme includes meetings with established artists:
– Anri Kulev will present his new animated film Button for Sleeping based on "Five Fairy Tales" by Valery Petrov;
– Anzhela Minkova will introduce the participants to the ancient Arabic Ebru technique for painting on water;
– Zlatka Andreeva will demonstrate the creation of handmade paper;
– Puppet theatre director Vanya Ivanova will lead the workshop "The Living Object";
– (at the end) a jam session with musicians.
 
Daily schedule
Morning – from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
Lunch break
Afternoon – from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
 
EXHIBITION: At the end of the project implementation, the best works of the participants in the fifteenth edition – SAChSS 2024 – will be presented in Academia Gallery.
 
NOTE: The children's works will be received according to schedule!
 
Should parents wish, warm luncheon can be provided for their children by a catering company with proven quality of services. The menu will also include a vegetarian option. Payment for luncheon is not included in the participation fee and should be made on the spot.
 
Participation fees
– All day (from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm): BGN 40.00
– Half day: BGN 20.00
 
Advance payment
– For two weeks (10 days), all day option, bonus: 1-day participation free of charge;
– For three weeks (15 days), all day option, bonus: 2-day participation free of charge
– Full month, all day option, bonus: 3-day participation free of charge
 
Fees include: overhead, teacher and staff fees, and costs of all art, stationery and hygiene materials required to run the project.
 
Participation fee discounts (social)
– For the second child in a family: 20% off
– For the third child and each subsequent child in a family: 50% off
– For a child with incapacity (as per a decision of a Territorial Expert Physicians Commission): 50% off
– For an orphan: Free of charge
– For a child with one parent: 50% off
 
When using different discounts, payment is made on the spot based on relevant documents (originals and copies):
– For orphans – parents' death certificate;
– For children having a decision of a Territorial Expert Physicians Commission – a document showing the decision of a Territorial Expert Physicians Commission;
– For a large family – the children's birth certificates.
 
Payment methods
 
IN CASH: If only for 1-day participation and also for children eligible for social discounts, for which it is necessary to present relevant documents. Payment can be made at both locations of SAChSS 2024 (1 Shipka Street and 73 Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd) from 8:30 am to 9:30 am & from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
 
BY BANK TRANSFER: Only for children, who participate for more than one day and are not eligible for social discounts, for which no document is required.

Note: The bank statement should be printed out and and presented every time as proof – it will serve as an entrance ticket.
 
The Summer Academy starts on 1 August 2024 at 09:00 am at both locations simultaneously.
 
Payment of participation fee via bank transfer: every day. Payment of fees in cash can be made on the following dates: 29th, 30th and 31st July, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, National Academy of Art, 1 Shipka Street.
