Department Textile – Art and Design

Artists in Textiles are trained to work in the two main branches of this discipline, artistic textiles and textile design. Their curriculum aims at expanding their individual artistic capabilities and giving them knowledge and technical skills in both.
BA in Textiles guarantees the advantage of a secure grasp on artistic design and its implementation in fabrics, in printing and in manual ornamentation. Teaching is done on the basis of national traditions, with nature as a generator of ideas, and modern textile as a means of new mode of expression. Modern technological and artistic expertise is required when working with fabrics and designing textiles surfaces. Artistic textiles, interior textiles and textiles for clothing and accessories are also on the curriculum. Added to the specific subject are all other subjects of the mainstream curriculum of the academy, including drawing, painting, graphic and computer techniques, history of art, history of costume, aesthetics.
The holders of BA in Textiles can work as professional designers of textile products for clothing and interiors for the textile industry, as decorators, textile artists. Those who have taken Theory and Practice of Education in the Arts as their second speciality, are entitled to teaching fine arts in the secondary comprehensive schools, and the secondary schools for the arts.
MA degree courses offer two main curricula: The Art of Textils, where the focus is on experiments and creative tasks involving 3D textiles, textile sculpture, and creating textile objects through different techniques, technologies and materials. Here, the theory is incorporated in the curriculum. In Textile design MA students work on decorative tasks in textiles for the interior, i.e. cloth and accessories for clothing and fashion collections.
MA degree holders in artistic textiles can work as designers in textile industry and teach in higher schools for the arts.
