KIRIL BOZHKOV | Watercolour Portraits
15–31 May 2024
Opening: 15 May 2024, 6:00 pm, Academia Gallery, 1 Shipka Street, Sofia
In 2024, the artist Kiril Bozhkov celebrates his 60th birth anniversary. On this occasion, on 15 May 2024, the Watercolour Portraits exhibition, which presents for the first time only watercolour works by the artist, will be opened at 6:00 pm in Academia Gallery at the National Academy of Art.
Kiril Bozhkov (b. 1964) is a master of watercolours, professor of Painting and Composition in the Department of Painting at the National Academy of Art, and Doctor of Art Studies and Fine Arts. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. In the last ten years, he has received numerous awards from international watercolour art forums in Italy, Spain, Japan, Bolivia, Korea, Mexico, Costa Rica, etc.
In 2016, he was distinguished for his contribution to the world watercolour art during the International Watercolour Triennial in Varna, Bulgaria.
The predominant theme in the exhibition is the portrait. Among the exhibited works, viewers can find the globally recognisable image of his mother, as well as portraits of his wife and son, portraits of models from the Academy, etc.
The art of watercolour presents a challenge due to its technique, which does not tolerate corrections. Watercolour is also a challenge due to the fact that in recent years it has successfully rivalled the achievements of every other painting technique.
