29 April – 3 May 2026

Exhibition opening and award ceremony: 29 April 2026, 12:00 pm, Academia Gallery
1 Shipka Street, Sofia

The management body of the National Academy of Art and the Department of Drawing present an exhibition of selected student artworks within the framework of the 16th edition of the General Academic Competition for Drawing. The initiative aims to stimulate creative activity and to present the greatest achievements in the field of drawing of students from all the departments in the National Academy of Art (Sofia and Burgas Branch). The exhibition reflects the creative work of students from all courses of study, achieved both in their educational process and artistic practice.

The laureates were determined by an expert jury comprising: Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanassov, PhD, Head of the Department of Drawing; Prof. Svetozar Benchev, Director of the National Academy of Art – Burgas Branch; Assoc. Prof. Lyubomil Draganov, PhD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts; Prof. Manya Vaptsarova, PhD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design; Assoc. Prof. Stoyan G Dechev, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Rossen Tsvetanov, and Assoc. Prof. Simeon Simeonov, PhD, from the Department of Drawing.

All exhibited works are realised on paper with the use of entirely classical materials–charcoal, pencil, Indian ink, pastel, chalk or mixed media (without any digital or other types of print), which emphasises the craftsmanship and individual styles of the young artists.

An important highlight in this year's edition of the competition is the National Academy of Art to present the drawings by the awarded students at the International Biennial of Drawing to be held in Sofia later this year, which is an exceptional opportunity to follow the direction and searches of art students worldwide.
