2023.07.31
Painting students from the National Academy of Art – Sofia and the Burgas Branch took part in the art residence from the 12th to 24th July 2023 at the Printmaking Base in the town of Samokov. Under the guidance of Emanuela Kovach and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov, the students experimented with the possibilities offered by lithography – the graphic technique closest to painting.
Resident artists: Bilyana Tokmakchieva, Hanko Sedefchev, Kostadin Radichev, Denitsa Toncheva from the National Academy of Arts – Sofia and their fellow students Alexandra Nikolova and Mihail Gavrailov from the Burgas Branch of the National Academy of Art
The residence is part of the educational project "Zones of Contact" programme of Maintaining Art in Bulgaria Foundation. The project is inspired by The Book of Legendary Lands by the Italian writer Umberto Eco. The works created during the project duration will be presented in two exhibitions – from 19 September to 2 October 2023 at the Union of Bulgarian Artists at 6 Shipka Street and in November at Bayrakli Mosque in the town of Samokov.
The exhibitions will show the authorship interpretation of the theme, as well as the visual and semantic impact of the works made on the same theme, in the same genre (landscape), but realised with the means of two different media and located in two different spaces – in the intimate world of the studio and during the art residence.
The project "Zones of contact. Legendary Lands and Places" is financed by the Debuts programme of National Culture Fund and is carried out in partnership with the National Academy of Art, City History Museum – Samokov, and the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
