Open call for participation in creative workshops for Visual Arts students


In the period April – June 2023, the Department of Textiles – Art and Design at the National Academy of Art will organise 5 creative workshops for Visual Arts students. The workshop series aims to enrich the plastic language of Visual Arts students through training on various techniques and to support the development of the students' individual creative activities. The workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn about various tools to expand their artistic language.
Candidates can choose to participate in one of the five workshops:
Paper Module
1. Making of handmade paper using traditional Japanese techniques – modern use and plastic possibilities, leader Dr. Tsveta Yavasheva-Ivanova
2. Kirigami: 3D shapes and structures by paper cutting, leader Dafna Stoilkova
Painting Module
3. The mixed techniques – challenges and discoveries, leader Kalia Kalacheva
4. Epoxy resin – space in a two-dimensional surface, leader Dimitar Genchev
Screen Printing Module
5. The variety of pastes and textile structures in manual screen printing – combinations and technical possibilities, leader Dima Nedyalkova-Kaprieva

Each workshop is composed of two parts, each lasting 8 hours. The two parts will take place on two consecutive days – Saturday and Sunday.
Materials and safety equipment for all workshops are provided.
The workshops will be held in the teaching studios of the Department of Textiles – Art and Design at 100 G.M. Dimitrov Blvd.
Participation in the workshops is completely free-of-charge.

Visual Arts students from all universities in Bulgaria can apply for participation in one workshop of their choice.
Terms and conditions and application documents
Participants can apply for participation in a workshop of their choice with an up-to-date portfolio, a scanned copy of the certificate, which certifies that they are Bachelor's or Master's degree students in Visual Arts (issued by a university), and a completed Application Form.
Application documents can be submitted at by 27 February 2023, 3:00pm.
Participants will be selected and distributed into groups the committee of workshop leaders on the basis of the information provided in the applicants' documents.
The leading selection criteria are the artistic value of the works presented in the portfolio and the ability to express the motivation for participation.
The maximum number of participants in one workshop is 10.
Selected applicants will be notified by email by 20 March 2023.
