Izabela Manolova, doctoral student in the Department of History of Art at the National Academy of Art, is the producer of the short film titled Ambrozia nominated for best film in the "Short Film" category at the Vassil Gendov Awards of the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers.
Ambrozia presents a story of loneliness and struggle with our inner demons in the form of a sequence of poems recited by four main characters within 17 minutes. This is a film about dreams and illusions, while the main recurring question lurking "between the lines" is who the dreamer is anyway. The means for achieving the visual language are borrowed from Buñuel's films (An Andalusian Dog, and others) and from the Surrealist movement of the 20th century in general.
The Ambrozia project is conceptualised by Madeleine Demirova. The script consists of 14 poems written by the author, arranged in a certain plot, and developed by the cinematographer and director of photography Izabela Manolova. The director is Borimir Ilkov-Bono known to the public for his feature debut Anna (2022) with Radina Kardzhilova in the lead role.
Izabela Manolova graduated with a degree in Woodcarving from the National Academy of Art in 2019. She completed the Master's degree programme in Scenography for Cinema at the National Academy of Art. Currently, she is a doctoral student at the Department of History of Art.
The project was financed by the National Culture Fund under the Socially Engaged Arts Programme.
