Assoc. Prof. Dr. Venelin Shurélov will present the specifics of digital art, possibilities, practices and training at the National Academy of Art in the Master's degree programme in Digital Arts. The artist will showcase his works and projects in the field of digital arts, and will also introduce the students to the organisation and realisation of One Man, a high-tech interactive installation at the Mausoleum site in Sofia, November 2020 – December 2021.
 
The event is held on the initiative and with the support of the Student Council at the National Academy of Art.
 
Venelin Shurélov (b. 1977, Burgas, Bulgaria) lives and works in Sofia. He has graduated from the National Academy of Art; PhD obtained PhD in 2009. He is the co-founder (2008) of and lecturer in the Master's degree programme in Digital Arts at the National Academy of Art; co-founder, curatorial team member and technical organiser of DA Fest – International Digital Art Festival (since 2009); founder of "SubHuman Theater" (2004) and Via Pontica Art Group (2002). Venelin Shurélov is the author of various interactive installations and performances, among which are Drawing Machine (2005), Fantomat (2008), Orthoman (2009), Tabula Rasa (2010), Shooting Range (2012), and Rotor (2016) presented at Ars Electronics Center, Linz. In 2011, he delivered the cyber lecture "Man Ex Machina", and in 2016, as a guest lecturer he staged the performance-installation "Post-Everything" at Towson University, USA.
 
Shurélov's projects are diverse and include drawing, interactive installations and performances, digital technologies, video and art theory. He has realised a number of scenography projects and solo exhibitions, and has participated in general exhibitions and festivals in Bulgaria, Europe and the USA. He is a multiple award-winner for his work in the field of theatre and contemporary art.
