The monograph aims at tracing the issue of interpretation of the national tradition in Bulgarian artistic space of the 1960s, when artists and art critics debated on the process from different perspectives in synchrony with the overall development of art and aesthetic theory during that particular period.
The parallel comparison of viewpoints and in some instances of contradictory arguments reflects the entire complexity of Bulgarian artistic culture, in terms of both general ideological and plastic concepts, and personal "surveillance camera" of those who write about art.
Essentially, having passed through different phases of cultural use, the issue of the artistic gravity of tradition continues nowadays to be one of the questions difficult to resolve, as it is generated by the ceaseless process of universalisation of visual forms and artistic styles.
The publication "The National Tradition in Bulgarian Art in the 1960s. Artistic and Critical Discourse on Interpretive Practices" has been released as a result of the open competition for Scientific and Artistic Creative Activity of the National Academy of Art.
