At a special meeting of the Academic Council of the National Academy of Art, to be held on 26 March (Tuesday), starting at 4:00 pm in Academia Gallery, Prof. Iliya Iliev will be awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Art.
Iliya Iliev is a master of mosaic art; founding member of AIMC – The International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists based in Ravenna, Italy; Professor of Mural Painting; long-time teacher at the National Academy of Art; Head of the Department of Mural Painting at the National Academy of Art (1990). His works are deeply connected to the sea and nature, and to the beauty of the geometric form. The artist uses marble, granite, stone, glass (modelled by himself), and various natural forms brought by the sea and time. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and ha presented solo exhibitions, such as the exhibition in Chartres, France (2010), Omnaggio in Ravenna, Italy (2013). In 2015, he was awarded the title of Honorary Member of AIMC, and in 2021, he was awarded certificate and GOLDEN CENTURY – NECKLACE Honorary Badge of the Ministry of Culture.

2005 Visiting professor, St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo
Over 80 of his works are realised in architectural spaces. A significant number of his easel works are part of the National Gallery collection, private collections in Bulgaria, the USA, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Russia, Germany, Hungary, North Macedonia, Serbia, and other countries.
