Prof. Stoimen Stoilov was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Art

On 29 September 2026, at Academia Gallery, in the presence of the Academy's management body, professors, students and guests, the artist Prof. Stoimen Stoilov was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Art – the highest distinction of the Academy, which is awarded for exceptional contribution to the development and promoting of Bulgarian art. 
 
Among the official guests was Ms Antonia Bierbaumer, Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Austria and Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Sofia.
 
The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Regina Dalkalacheva, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The artist's creative path was presented by Assoc. Prof. Vassil Kolev, PhD, Head of the Department of Printmaking.
 
The Rector of the National Academy of Art, Prof. Georgi Iankov, performed the official part of the awarding ceremony and presented Prof. Stoilov with the honorary diploma and collar–the regalia of an honorary doctor of the Academy.
 
Congratulatory addresses were received from the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms Iliyana Yotova, and from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Mihaela Dotsova.
 
On the occasion of the awarding, an exhibition with prints, papyri, pastels and paintings by Prof. Stoimen Stoilov was also opened. It can be viewed in Academia Gallery until 9 October 2026.
