2026.03.05

Lecture by the Italian architect Francesca Balena Arista on the occasion of Italian Design Day 2026
10 March 2026, 6:00 pm, Academia Gallery
1 Shipka Street, Sofia
The Embassy of Italy in Sofia, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Trade Agency, together with the National Academy of Art, Confindustria Bulgaria and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, present the lecture "RE-DESIGN. Design Challenges", which will be delivered by Arch. Francesca Balena Arista.
In her lecture, Francesca Balena Arista will examine challenges as a powerful stimulus for the creativity of architects and industrial designers. Starting from the historical context of Italian radical design, which between the 1960s and 1970s achieved a profound rethinking of the discipline in conditions of social and cultural crises, it will outline a panorama of contemporary design through a series of case studies. The lecture will explore how contemporary architecture and design can operate in surprising ways in complex contexts, responding to the global questions of today and tomorrow. The thought of the world-renowned designer and theorist Andrea Branzi will also be a central focus.
The lecture will be delivered in Italian with simultaneous interpretation into Bulgarian.
Entrance is free upon prior registration at email address: iicsofia@esteri.it
