The February issue of LIK Magazine is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the National Academy of Art

In February, the issue of LIK Magazine is dedicated to the 130th anniversary since the founding of the National Academy of Art. This issue of the publication on literature, art and culture of the Bulgarian News Agency is entitled “130 Years of Higher Education in Fine Arts”. It presents not only highlights from the history of the National Academy of Art, but also the contemporary development directions of the higher education institution.

The event on presenting the February issue will be held via video conferencing jointly with the national press clubs of the News Agency in Bulgaria and abroad. It will be attended by the News Agency's Director General, Mr Kiril Valchev, and the Rector of the National Academy of Art, Prof. Georgi Iankov. The LIK editor-in-chief, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov, and the managing editor, Ms Yanitsa Hristova, will also participate in the event. The authors of the texts included in the February edition – Assoc. Prof. Boyka Donevska, PhD, Head of the Department of History of Art, Dr. Milena Balcheva-Bozhkova, curator of the Museum Collection, and Ms Svilena Chelebiyska-Mateeva, Director – Education, Projects and International Cooperation at the National Academy of Art, will also be participating.

The event date was not arbitrarilily chosen – on 26 February 1861, in Vienna, was born Ferdinand I – Prince and subsequently Tsar of Bulgaria, who ruled for over three decades and was considered one of the great benefactors of the State School of Drawing. By his decree, the State School of Drawing was founded on 6 February 1896, which over the decades became the Academy we know today.

Since January 2024, LIK Magazine is an open-access periodical. All the issues since its publishing was resumed in 2022 to the present day can be downloaded in electronic format from the website of the Bulgarian News Agency.
