The National Academy of Art expands its institutional partnerships in Edirne

In this context, the National Academy of Art develops and maintains sustainable partnerships in the region, affirming its role as an active participant in the cultural dialogue in the Balkans. In this context, the representatives of the National Academy of Art – Prof. Zdravka Vassileva, PhD (Vice-Rector), Svilena Chelebiyska-Mateeva (Director of Education, Projects and International Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Vasil Kolev, PhD (Head of Exhibition Activities) and Dimitrina Spassova (Head of the Public Relations Department), made a working visit to the city of Edirne, Republic of Turkey, aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of arts, implementing joint initiatives and creating new opportunities for exchange between the two countries. The visit was also carried out in connection with the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the National Academy of Art.
The programme included a visit to the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Edirne. During the meeting with the Consul General Radoslava Kafedjiyska, emphasis was placed on the expert role of the National Academy of Art in the preservation of Bulgarian cultural monuments in Edirne. Future restoration interventions in the two Bulgarian churches of St. George and of St. St. Constantine and Helena”, symbols of the Bulgarian presence and spirituality, were also discussed. An official meeting was also held with Kemal Soytürk, Director of the Directorate of Culture and Tourism of the Governorate of Edirne, at which were discussed opportunities for presenting exhibitions of the National Academy of Art in Edirne – an opportunity for the public and visitors to the city to experience the traditions and contemporary achievements of the Bulgarian art school. The meeting also emphasised the importance of institutional support for the implementation of joint cross-border projects, which not only preserve the heritage, but also stimulate economic development through cultural tourism. One such project, which is currently being implemented with the Edirne city administration, is BGTR0200057 “CBC CULTOUR – Tourism through Culture – Our Common Future”. The National Academy of Art is the lead partner and its main goal is to transform the cross-border region into a recognisable cultural destination.
