The National Academy of Art has received the prestigious Golden Pen Award. The high recognition comes on the eve of the 130th anniversary of the Academy’s founding as State School of Drawing – a tradition that has established the institution as the most significant factor in Bulgarian visual art and education.
The prestigious award–a 24-carat gold brooch in the shape of a pen and a diploma–was presented to the Rector of the National Academy of Art Prof. Georgi Iankov, during the official ceremony at the City Mark Art Centre in Sofia.
“The Academy is a cultural institution that glorifies Bulgaria. This calling is an inspiration for me, as are the students,” noted Prof. Iankov in his address.
The Golden Pen Award was established in 1996 by the Cantus Firmus Agency and the Makta Gallery. It is awarded annually to outstanding artists and institutions with a significant contribution to Bulgarian culture in the fields of literature, theatre, music, fine arts, cinema and journalism. A total of 24 awards were presented this year.
