The exhibition includes photographs of historical excavations in the Deultum National Archaeological Reserve in the village of Debelt, as well as emblematic Strandzha houses in the villages in the Sredets Municipality: Golyamo Bukovo, Gorno Yabalkovo, Dolno Yabalkovo, Kirovo, Varovnik and Belevren. Visitors to the exhibition will also see footage of archaeological sites – dolmens and ritual Thracian sanctuaries filmed in the area around these villages.

Participants in the Secrets of Strandzha pleine air are students pursuing the Master's degree programme in Photography at the National Academy Art (Sofia and Burgas): Vladimir Popov, Kristiyan Dimitrov and Prolet Borissova. The initiative also includes Margarita Spiridonova and Kiril Todorov, members of the Ethnographic Museum team. Leaders of the plein air are lecturers Assoc. Prof. Ivan Kyuranov, PhD, and Assoc. Prof. Rossen Toshev, PhD.

The main idea of the pleine air is to focus public attention on the problems of the villages in the Sredets Municipality by using the power of art. Another important task, which the organisers from the Municipal Historical Museum – Sredets set for themselves, is the preservation of the cultural and historical traditions. By providing to the young artists an opportunity for artistic expression, the museum aims to show their attitude and aesthetic sense, and that would contribute to the environment improvement.

The exhibition was first presented in January and February 2026 at the Geymanovata kashta | Municipal Historical Museum – Sredets

The project is implemented in partnership with the National Academy of Art under project BG-RRP-11.02-0027 "A New Generation of Local Cultural Policies of the Municipality of Sredets" funded under the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
