The National Academy of Art is a partner in the large-scale project Re:Create Europe of the European Alliance of Academies (EAA), funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. The project will be implemented in the period 2026–2029. Project partners include the following European arts organisations and academies: Arts Council Malta, Croatian Association of Fine Artists, Academy of Fine Arts and Design Bratislava, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, National Academy of Art, Sofia, National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Society of Hungarian Authors, Villa Decius Kraków, and Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
The project Re:Create Europe – “The Art of Resilience and Resistance: Empowering Artists and Cultural Professionals Facing New Challenges in Europe” conveys a clear institutional message in response to the growing pressure on artistic freedom and cultural autonomy in Europe. Increasingly, artists and cultural professionals are working under conditions shaped by wars and aggression, political instrumentalisation, economic insecurity, environmental crises, and shrinking civic space. In this context, resilience cannot be understood solely as adaptation, but as a cultural, ethical, and civic responsibility.
Through a combination of mobility programmes, blended learning formats, on-site residencies, digital mapping, and international conferences, Re:Create Europe aims to support and empower artists and cultural professionals from various disciplines and regions. The project strengthens transnational solidarity, supports artistic practice in times of crisis, and encourages exchange between institutions, practitioners, and artists engaged in cultural policy.

During the meeting, the partner institutions will present their perspectives and outline their vision for the next four years. Under the overarching theme “Transformation of Cultural Policies,” the first year of the project focuses on the role of artistic and cultural practices in strengthening cultural resilience, institutional autonomy, and civic engagement.
Since its establishment in 2020, the European Alliance of Academies—which today brings together 72 art academies and cultural institutions across Europe—has actively defended the freedom of the arts through public events, solidarity statements, artistic collaborations, and engagement in cultural policy. Re:Create Europe builds on this shared commitment and transforms it into long-term practical cooperation.
Re:Create Europe marks an important next stage in the Alliance’s work to protect the conditions under which free artistic expression, critical thinking, and cultural exchange can continue to exist and develop in Europe.
